this year i also wrote my first christmas card.
i send it to my uncle, my mother's brother.
I'm hoping you get a reply of some sort from your uncle.
It was rather interesting years ago when I heard a great uncle of mine had died. I wrote a letter to his widow explaining how I remember from my youth the kindness uncle showed my mom, his neice, and her children. Especially at Christmas time.
The odd thing was I explained briefly about my now Jw family and I having no relationship due to that religion, and then it dawned on me DUH- that she was a witness or her kids..or some such thing.
Nonetheless, my letter was never acknowledged, and that's ok, too.
My df aunt is the best. If your uncle is as cool as some of the other old timers long gone from that filthy religion, I'm betting you hear back real soon.

Getting rid of television, period, is always a good idea imho.
We axed our cable this past summer because we simply got tired of paying for commercials, reruns, stupid sitcoms, waste-of-time reality shows, biased and out an' out lies on the news channels...geezzzz so many postive things commin' at ya from tv land.
Now, as heaten mentioned, it's getting out of hand all the ads and bullcrap coming through the internet...no matter what kind/how much protection you buy for the computer. So....I'll be off line this time next month.
OMgawd...no television...no Internet. Hummm, maybe I'll invest in one of those items ya'll were discussing in another thread.

If humanity is Hebrew [avoids the Jew word}...then why the Bible rather than the Talmud or, their other sacred writings that go contrary to Jesus. seriously i just dont understand the thought process behind what people do at xmas and the holiday season.
have you ever noticed how negative and stressed out people are?
i come into contact with a lot of people at work and as a job requirement i have to make small talk with them while taking care of their transactions and services.
The spirit of Christmas...flower/mouthy...celebrating the blessed event of another precious child coming into the world.
It's about love.
I'm so enjoying watching the grandchildren because they are at different stages of what it all means...the oldest is learning about "there is no Santa", and is so happy to have gotten a gift for each family member. The middle one (boy, aged 6) could care less about any Santa or Jesus...he just wants to open presents now. The youngest (soon to be 4) is at that age of wonderment and delight over the whole experience.
I'm so very fortunate being a part of it all.
Just last night they had an opportunity for being on this tiny local television channel; sitting on Santa's lap telling him what they want for Christmas. Now what grandma couldn't be proud of that.
So I'm voting for the Love aspect that reflects in most people this time of year - especially this time of year. For those that complain...let them do something different next season. No one is obligated to do anything just because it's Christmas.
GL...gotta go get that breakfast started for hubby!
i'm thinking of telling my mother i can't talk to her anymore sine i don't agree with how she is conducting her life.
occasionally, i'll meet up with her and my jw aunt (they work together) with both kids in the car.
my aunt will come over to check out my baby but completely pretend that i'm not even there.
After years of no contact - last year {geez almost 2 now} I was mentally preparing for a visit with my older sister (fence rider) and JW mom. After running into another sister (jw wannbe) where we had no contact for 14 years...I remembered my life is happier for NOt having those people around me. Period.
I'm not going to sit around and listen to their sick religious mumbojumbo where there is no respect for me. Why is it we are expected to be so polite and yet they can dump their neurotic bullcrap at us? Just isn't going to happen.
And they can stay far away from my grandchildren, too. That is, unless they are prepared to see just how crazy I'm capable of becoming. I deteste such extreme hypocricy and won't have them in my presence. 'And I really don't much give a good g-d damn what they think of me anymore. They can all kiss my backside!

he was accepting $500 from a charity that provides money at this time of year, the heading was, "the season of goodwill".

Me thinks other cultures pretend not understanding much until it comes to "free", too. Amazing how this one family was always at the community center for a handout, and then hubby saw mommy at Radio Shack one day buying a $250.00 electronic toy at Christmas time.
Religion/money. Money/religion.
And the 501(C) exempt is another example of religious hypocricy.

my mom-in-law (a jw for 50+ years) was just on the phone with an old childhood friend of hers (a baptist and perfectly content with her religion) that lives down south and she told her that "god doesn't want you to have a christmas tree...you should know that by now.
" grrrrrrrrrrr......i just wanted to slap her.. how dare she try and ruin someone else's holidays spewing her poison!
Pathetic is right!
But then we know they don't want you too have a life, either. Sheeehhhh
